#1 was George Karl. #2 was Dave Koechner. Correct on #3 (AFAICT he punched all the buttons! A Hail Mary to try for the win.)

Remember, knoodler, that you may rephrase your question and ask again, if I give a correct answer but not for the person you were thinking of.
After I posted I looked up the wiki, and Doug Kenney was mentioned in the first issue of the magazine, in 1970, whereas Kroger is first mentioned in the Yearbook (1974). So I messed up twice. I appreciate the advice but I think it’s better I let that one go.

No idea. Maybe someone from a commercial?
That would make sense, but apparently it would be someone pretty obscure in a sporting sense, which isn’t usually the type of pitchman a product marketer would be interested in.
Would any golfers fit the bill?
Would any golfers fit the bill?
No, because the person didn’t play a professional sport. What else is there? Commentator? Manager?
I can’t believe I’ve been here for twenty years.
Commentator? Manager?
Team owner? I think they sometimes show the owner’s box during NFL telecasts, not sure if that happens in other sports…

Rollen Fredrick Stewart (born February 23, 1944), also known as Rock’n Rollen and Rainbow Man , is a man who was a fixture in American sports culture best known for wearing a rainbow-colored afro-style wig and, later, holding up signs reading “John 3:16” at stadium sporting events around the United States and overseas in the 1970s and 1980s.[1] He was convicted of multiple kidnapping charges following an incident in 1992 and is now serving three life sentences in Mule Creek State Prison.
Arguably known from sports; not a coach, not an announcer, etc. Someone like him?

Some kind of superfan? The Orioles had “Wild Bill” Hagy for a while in the 70’s & 80’s, leading cheers from the bleachers. Wrong letters, but otherwise a good idea…
Right, and the John 3:16 guy is still alive.
So is Don King.
Are you Evel Knievel?
Now that’s a great guess!
Are you Evel Knievel?
Dingdingding! Yes, I am
