L Sprague de Camp wote about Martin Padway’s unexpexted move to Rome in _Lest Darkness Fall_. (Proofreading? We don’t need no stinkin’ proofreading!) 16th- or 17th-century political figure born east of the Rhine and north of Vienna, not a head of state and not an important figure in the Thirty Years War.
