Botticelli - June 2013

Since they’re taking the SDMB down for repairs tonight, I think I’ll wait 'til tomorrow to ask more IQs…

#3 is indeed Antonio Vivaldi.

Just kidding - #1 is Vivaldi.
#2 is Giuseppe Verdi. He personally oversaw the operations of ‘Villa Verdi’, and it was a profitable farming operation up until his death.
#3 is Edgar Varèse. Teenage Zappa was enthralled with ‘Ionisations’, and used his birthday money to phone the composer in New York. The first time, he only got to speak to the composer’s wife, Louise, as Varèse was in Belgium. They did speak later; a planned meeting never took place.
So - DQ1: Are you alive?
DQ2: Are you American?

V

  1. Real
  2. Male
  3. Dead
  4. Not American

Valerie Plame, outed by Richard Armitage, but Scooter Libby got blamed.
Yes, Virginia, that was who I was thinking of.
Fred Vinson, Chief Justice of the United States.

DQs:

European?
Last name starts with V?

IQs:

Were you a White House aide who committed suicide?
Did a young Andy Griffith appear in a play that featured you?
Did Steve Winwood sing about you?

  1. Were you a Dutch painter who specialist in genre scenes, depicting interior portrayals of middle-class life?
  2. Were you the father of Op Art?
  3. Did you create the work, the Marriage of Arnolfini?

IQ1: Did you have a scandalous affair with an underage poet?
IQ2: Did you turn in a kicking performance at ‘The Last Waltz’?
IQ3: Did Caesar mention you as a soldier in the commentaries, leading to much greater fame in modern times?

Three DQs.

  1. I am not my favourite painter, Jan Vermeer.
  2. I am not van Dyck.
Take a DQ for #2, or more if appropriate.

DQs for the first two. If #3 was meant to be Vercingetorix, see post 174; if not, then take a third DQ.

#1. is the French poet Paul Verlaine, who left his wife and child to live with the young Arthur Rimbaud. Their torrid affair is the subject of the play ‘Total Eclipse’.

#2. is Van Morrison, who sang ‘Caravan’ at The Band’s concert ‘The Last Waltz’. It was a kicking performance, in that he did about twenty high dance kicks, in addition to singing well.

#3. isn’t Vercingetorix, but rather Lucius Vorenus, who is one of the central characters in the HBO series ‘Rome’ (both seasons), and who was mentioned (along with Titus Pullo) in Caesar’s ‘Commentaries on the Gallic Wars’.
DQ1: Were you born before 1900 AD?
DQ2: Are you renowned for your contributions to The Arts, broadly defined as to include all forms of artistic endeavour, whether creative or re-creative, up to and including swimsuit modelling?

I’ll reserve my last DQ, if I may.

I like Vermeer too. Victor Vasarely is the Father of Op Art, and it’s Jan van Eyck, not van Dyck, that did the Arnolfini wedding.

DQ:
Musician, composer or singer?

I, too, shall hold onto one DQ.

Vince Foster, a top Clinton advisor, thus giving rise to all sorts of wacky conspiracy theories.
Virginia Dare, in the Outer Banks outdoor drama The Lost Colony.

Yep. And Valerie Perrine went topless on a PBS production of the play Steambath, http://www.metacafe.com/?m=featured_video. Also with Bill Bixby, it was 1973, I was 20 and I decided right then and there I really needed to start dating.

Robert Vaughn was in The Magnificent Seven (itself a remake of the Seven Samurai), where he played a killer for hire; he played the same character in the scifi remake, Battle Beyond the Stars. Victor Petrenko and family coached Osaka Baiul to Olympic Gold, but the girl liked to party and had some DUI’s and somehow didn’t get on the touring circuits as other skaters were doing at the time.

Yeah, it’s another stumper. Think, think, think…
