Correct on Zane Grey. (Good books. I was ten or so when I read them - I keep telling myself I ought to reread them to see if they’re really as good as I remember their being.)
Zaccheus, the man who climbed a tree to see Jesus, according to the old Sunday-school song.
Yet another man named Zed, this one from MiB.
Hmmm… Male protagonist from a non-SF American movie made (and set) in the last quarter-century; still alive; has not appeared in any other works. We’re at 19 DQs already, and I haven’t a clue.

If this character has only been in one movie and no other media, I’m wondering if he actually qualifies as “at least as famous as Botticelli.” But, his identity reveal will probably make me slap myself and wonder how I couldn’t think of his name. For now, I’m clueless.

DQ: Is the movie based on a true story?

DQ in reserve

That’s 20 DQs. Any remaining DQs should be asked in the next, say, 24 hours, and then we’ll go to any earned “Are you Firstname Lastname?” questions to end the round.

It finally hit me. The reason why this is such a good choice is because everybody in the SDMB hates Adam Sandler.

Are you Zohan?

I am not.

OK, please ask any other earned “Are you Firstname Lastname?” questions in the next 24 hours.

Are you international fashion model Derek Zoolander?

I am not.

I got nothing. Zohan was my best shot.

Pass.
I posted this several hours ago, but apparently it drained off into the bit bucket…

Behold, I am

Zeus Carver

Samuel L. Jackson’s memorable character from Die Hard with a Vengeance: Samuel Jackson, Die Hard with a vengance, Zeus - YouTube.

Well, I’ve seen the movie. I remember the character, but would never have come up with his name.

His name is something of a plot point, as you see. Certainly stuck with me.

Never saw the movie. Oh well, what’s the next letter?

Oh, agreed. It’s a good choice, just one I wouldn’t have remembered.
