Botticelli - March 2018

OK, I have a guess.

Are you Ant Man?

I am not Ant Man.

A.

  1. fictional
  2. human
  3. created by American(s)
  4. created after 1900
  5. appears in more than one written work of fiction (that is, in comics)
  6. has been represented in a filmed work of entertainment
  7. created after 1970
  8. first name starts with A
  9. not really the protagonist
  10. fiction set in contemporary America (i.e., at the time when it was written)
  11. not in a military genre
  12. male
  13. created before 2000
  14. a main character in a Hollywood feature film (or films)
  15. would probably be alive, if real
  16. not a significant antagonist or villain
  17. not really in the action genre, although there is action
  18. the fiction in which I feature arguably has elements of magic or highly implausible science
  19. none of the books in the written fiction preceded the first filmed fiction
  20. not an uncommon first name
  21. mostly comedic, but with some noteworthy serious moments
  22. not aware of the character being used in merchandising

So it’s a comic book character from a movie, but not a superhero (or he’d be used in merchandising) or a villain, but a supporting character who’s NOT really in the action genre BUT somewhat in the comedy genre, with a not uncommon first name. And created between 1971 and 1999 inclusive.

Wow. I’m really sorry I’ve already guessed, though I haven’t figured him out yet.

Not being into the comic book scene, I have no chance of getting this, so I’ll happily cede my guess to anyone else who wants one, if EH is feeling generous. Totally cool to stick to the rules and claim victory though!

So far all I’ve come up with is Dr. Abraham Erskine from Captain America (but he was created in the 1940’s), and Alex Summers, Havok in the X-Men movies (but he was created in the late 1960’s I think). More pondering ahead.

Oh, and Adrian Veidt, Ozymandias from the Watchmen. But he was the villain (although he was trying to save the world).

Batman’s trusty aid Alfred is, of course, from long before 1970.

Yeah, Ant Man was originally Yellow Jacket and created in the 60’s. Marvel later made them two separate individuals, but the timing is still too murky to fit the DQs.

I still have a DQ left, so:

DQ: Marvel character?

Since I didn’t see KO’s question until after noon, I’ll extend the deadline to 10pm EST tonight.

…and Arthur Curry is Aquaman, who wasn’t the biggest star in Justice League. Of course, Aquaman predates 1970. And it may not be DC Comics at all…

No extra charge.

Okay, there’ Spawn, Mystery Men, Meteor Man, Hellboy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Kickass, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Sin City… and all that anime. And more that doesn’t come to mind right now.

OK, let’s have all earned “Are you Firstname Lastname?” queries, one per player other than Prof. P. and KO, by 10pm EST Tuesday, please.

I think I got it. It’s the pet detective played by Jim Carrey, if somebody wants to try that.

My DQ:
Are you Ace Ventura, Pet Detective?

I am not (and I didn’t know he was ever in comics).

OK, time’s up, and I am

Andy Davis

Owner of Woody, Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm and all the other toys in the Toy Story movies.

It’s a fair cop, guv - nicely done.

Dammit. I gave up because I don’t know anything about comics, but as the film came first, it should have been clear that it was the equivalent of a novelisation, but for a kid’s film series. So, eminently gettable with perfect recall. Nicely done.

Cool! nicely done

I didn’t remember the kid’s name, but that was entirely in Professor’s wheelhouse.
