Joshua Norton is the emperor. Professor Seagull is Joe Gould, a New York eccentric famously written about by a journalist from the south whose name I can’t remember - I was worried the journalist might be the one, but now I think not. ---

Did you insist that you were more important than the guy in the previous question? - Very talented but self-promoting musician Jelly Roll Morton. So. We have a dead American male, first name starts with J, best known for a single incident, who died between 1900-1950 and not of natural causes (could it be a famous crime victim?). Political/military and religious connections. Born south of the Mason-Dixon Line, east of the Mississippi but _not_ in the continental U.S., which could mean… Puerto Rico? Overseas somewhere, but still an American? Hmm. What would be a useful last two questions to ask? ---
