A three-fer; three related questions for the price of one (and an extra hint, besides)!
1. is **Krishna** ; Duryodhana and Arjuna both approach Krishna while he sleeps, to ask for his allegiance in the upcoming Kurukshetra War. Although Duryodhana is the first in the room, Krishna sees Arjuna first. Arjuna does not care about Krishna’s armies, kinsman or weapons - he only wants the God to guide him. Duryodhana, earth-bound materialist that he is, can only see the worth of Krishna’s forces and not the worth of the God. He leaves Arjuna with Krishna himself, and takes all of Krishna’s armies, thinking he got the better deal.
2. is **Karna**. Karna is actually a half-brother to the Pandavas, but none of them know it at this point. Karna presents himself while all the cousins are in training; Arjuna arrogantly demands to know Karna’s background. When Karna tells them that he was found in a basket in the river by a chariot-driver and adopted, the Pandavas tell him to get out - he is unworthy to fight with them. At this point, Duryodhana generously adopts Karna, and the noble warrior becomes allied to the evil Kauravas.
3. is **King Kuru** , who is the grandfather of both the Pandavas and the Kauravas.

Correct on Clark Kent.
On IQ2, I was looking for MacKinley Kantor, who won the Pulitzer in 1956 for _Andersonville_.
On IQ3, I was looking for Bel Kaufman, whose 1965 novel, _Up the Down Staircase_, made a few waves in its day.
