I realize this round is over, but for anyone who’s wondering: Bobby Doerr was the Red Sox’ second baseman from 1937 (two years before Williams joined the team) to 1951. Williams retired in 1960, and his final game was the subject of a New Yorker story written by John Updike and titled Hub Fans Bid Kid Adieu.
