John F. Kennedy suggested to his personal friend but political rival Barry Goldwater that they campaign together for President in 1964, each having a chance to speak before the same crowds, a la the Lincoln-Douglas debates. LBJ didn’t make the same offer after JFK’s death, and beat Goldwater handily. DQ: Did you become a folk hero or legendary figure after your death? IQ: Was a kind of small military vehicle named after you? ---
