Not quite sure of the semantic difference here, but perhaps: “Greatest level of fame occurred since January 1, 1980” would be the best way to phrase it. Which I guess is more your second phrasing? ---

EH often asks IQs like “Died since 1990?” My first thought is always along the lines of “Yes, in fact I’ve died seven times since 1990”, but the response I give is “Died/Did not die after 1990.” ---
