Pink Floyd Ludovic Yeah, Atom heart Mother is pretty sucky but I like Saucerful of Secrets, I second the rest.
However
I don’t have it to hand but there’s a lot of crap on the soundtrack to ‘More’ sorry I can’t name the tracks right now, maybe if I can bear to play it later.
Frank Zappa. Off the top of my head (I know there are worse)
In France
Jumbo go away
Cocaine Decisions
Dead Girls of London
Yo Cats
Steely Dan: Still working on this, maybe one or two off the first album?
**Interrobang!?**My list of Beatles songs would be different, all the McCartney whimsical stuff Mawell’s Silver Hammer, Your Mother Would Know, When I’m 64 ugh!
OTOH, I think “Atom Heart Mother” is one of Floyd’s best pieces. Just plain brilliant, and before their mucic was Watered down for general consumption.
What’s Become of Baby? Sorry, nitrous oxide gives me a headache and that’s the only way the song is decipherable.
From the Heart of Me. Shakedown Street is a hit and miss album. This was a miss.
Let Me Sing Your Blues Away. Wake of The Flood could have been a certifable masterpiece (some folks think it is). Keith’s lame vocals and the horn section ruin it for me. Shut up and play your piano, Keith. And quit nodding off.
Row Jimmy. Another from Wake of the Flood, except the studio version is fine - it is the live versions that were always waaaaayyyyy tooooooo slllloooooowwwww. Beer and bathroom break before the end of the first set - I’ll be back in my seat before Weir says “We’re gonna take a short break so everyone…hang loose.”
Hell in A Bucket. “Hurry up, man…we’re gonna be late.” “Shut up…you know they’re gonna start with “Hell In A Bucket” and you’ve heard it a million times.” “Yeah, I guess you’re right. Where are the matches?”
Funny. I don’t like Pearl Jam, but I love Spin the black circle.
46&2: I know Time & Motion isn’t a bad song, technically, but I hate it. I’m all for the weird stuff, strange rhythms, what have you, but T&M just fails to amuse me.
Chuck, I think a lot of their pre-Mega-era stuff (especially the vocal pieces on More,) is brilliant, but suffer in the execution. The AHMS is no exception. Probably the worst execution-to-potential ratio of any Floyd tune.
The non-vocal pieces on More, on the other hand, I actually debated including. But they, despite not being much of anything, are actually executed fairly well. And they arent long enough to be as annoying as my other nominations
I may be the only Poco fan here, but for every Richie Furay/Paul Cotton/Rusty Young gem like “Crazy Eyes” or “Bad Weather”, there’s an embarrassingly schmaltzy:
Whatever Happened to Your Smile
This Old Flame
Me and You
Sittin’ on a Fence
How Many Moods
Even the names are schmaltzy.
… Can we just call a really syrupy, insipid song a “My Love”, after sir Paul?
Shine on You Crazy Diamond (not sure why, just never struck me)
Echoes (Because my sister used to scare the crap outta me with this when I was a mere pre-schooler. You gotta admit, it’s pretty spooky sounding from a three year old’s perspective)
Run Like Hell (I don’t hate it, but it’s not among those that I really actively like)
Um, wow. I can only think of three right off the top of my head.
Never got to hear a Dead “Passenger” except for tapes (they had stopped playing it), but Phil and Friends do a terrific version of it. I’m with you on the Vince material though - never could understand that choice except “Who are we going to get to play keyboards now?” “I don’t know and I don’t care - just hire somebody.” “OK, sounds like a plan. How 'bout this guy?”
