If anything, the crime would probably be doing something harmful to a law officer. The hoaxter knew or reasonably thought somebody was going to do something that’d at least annoy the Chief, and perhaps worse.

Not saying that ought to be against the law, but it probably is.

Alleged hoaxster busted!

[Bounty hunter arrested for provoking rival’s botched raid on Phoenix police chief](http://www.rawstory.com/2015/08/bounty-hunter-arrested-for-provoking-rivals-botched-raid-on-phoenix-police-chief/), Reuters (as republished at Raw Story), 19 Aug. 2015. (Hey, it’s still only 9:46 p.m. 18 Aug. in my quadrant of the galaxy!)

Rival bounty hunter accused to sending text to other bounty hunter with the false information. Now accused of “computer tampering” for doing that.

“Computer tampering” for sending a hoax text? Sounds pretty lame. Like **LSLGuy** sez, “Not saying that ought to be against the law, but it probably is.”

Reminds me of the two bounty hunters in Midnight Run, except in this case they’re _both_ jerks.

ETA: Dig that pic of the bounty hunter there. That’s the hoaxee, not the hoaxer.

> My knowledge of bounty hunting is limited entirely to the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich. The general rules I’ve taken away from these are:
>
> [ul]
> [li]Have easily cleanable upholstery and floor covers in your car[/li][li]Never, ever take anyone’s word that they’ll come peacefully in “just a minute”[/li][li]Keep your stun gun charged and test it before going in. Don’t keep one that’s ever failed[/li][li]Timing is everything[/li][li]Make sure they have nowhere to run[/li][li]But be able to run if necessary[/li][li]Restraining a subject is a little-appreciated martial art; learn and practice it[/li][li]Figure out how you’re going to get a heavy, combative bondee to your vehicle beforehand[/li][li]Have a clean change of clothes- or three- on hand[/li][/ul]

I always thought they should use mini or full sized vans/sprinters to transport because they have the lovely big sliding doors on both sides, very easy to shove skips into in chains. You can easily add the shackle points, and you can put the same kind of metal screen that you use to keep dogs in the back to keep skips from reaching over the seats and grabbing you if they manage to get loose. And they can be provided with child locks to keep the back doors locked so the skips can’t let themselves out.

Don’t forget H2O2 works like bleach, minus the tell tale odor…

The sender is charged with a felony, the guy who acted on it only 2 misdemeanors.

I believe his defense will be to call millions of Mom’s to testify that they told their child(ren), “If so-&-so told you to jump off a bridge, would you?”

Sounds more like “let’s find something, anything, to charge this guy with.”

Disregarding the fact the all-knowing AZ legislature has not yet seen fit to criminalize every possible permutation of human misbehavior.

This reminds me of the most recent (very entertaining) season of the Joe Schmoe show, in which the civilian thinks he’s participating in a reality show to see who can be the best bounty hunter, but in reality everyone else on the show is an actor in on the fake and he’s the only one who thinks it’s real. I bet the producers are kicking themselves for not coming up with this (except with an actor pretending to be the chief of police, another actor pretending to be the fake rival bounty hunter who sent the fake hoax tip), etc.

The only tip I have is to look in the paper goods aisle of the supermarket. Or you can but it in bulk at Costco.

Could be “let’s charge him with this easily proven thing first and add more charges once we’ve had a chance to look around.”

I’d always pictured Ranger as darker than the guy who played him in the movie.

I’m supposed to tip the bounty hunter?!?! I had no idea. No wonder he was so rough wiith me last time. What is the rule of thumb - 20% of the bail amount for a good capture with few bruises and work down from that?

I get my bounty hunting knowledge from the movie _Domino_. I find I do even better than she did; I only have to threaten to give a lap dance in order to get my target to surrender.

Hm, let me find a pic of him. I could go a little darker. Really, maybe [moderately dark](http://thumb9.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/1132418/151434032/stock-photo-seven-colors-of-coffee-drink-in-a-tall-glass-jar-very-light-light-light-medium-medium-151434032.jpg) rather than darker. Ah here we got [panetone](http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/05/08/23/2878520A00000578-0-image-a-13_1431125427156.jpg) skin tone chart =) 318-5C, third one in from left, bottom row. 320-2C also works, third row down first picture on the left. Yummy.
