The profits to be had by creating a buying and hoarding frenzy are so great that every distillery wants to get in on the action by fomenting a crazed social media following.
Right now it’s Buffalo Trace’s turn to be the darling. IMO it’s perfectly ordinary perfectly adequate factory bourbon, but nothing more.
The “meme stock” phenomenon is not limited to stocks.
This inspired me to come up with a new way to grade bourbons: maybe my favorite whisky experiences aren’t just about the taste, but what I was doing at the time. And who I was sipping with. And my mood at the time.
So I should pick some “tasty” bourbon (probably starting with Woodford Double Oaked), and sip it while I watch vintage comedies under a blanket and a dog, in front of a roaring fire.
I’ll bet being deliriously happy will affect the “bourbon experience”…
One of my friends grades bourbon by pouring a glass neat and set it out for at least 10 minutes before tasting.
