> I agree with this. If it’s down to you and a couple of other dudes who wore the same boring suit, be memorable.

If you want to be memorable, wear an eyepatch. Or, get a tattoo of a serpent on your face.
Naga, Naga, Naganna-work-here-anymore was memorable. (see Office Space). Didn’t help him.

> Bow ties may be extraordinary today, but I’ll bet you that in ten years or so, they’ll be considered perfectly normal. You’d be amazed by how many high schoolers wear them nowadays, even when a tie isn’t needed.

They won’t be.

Now, what we need is a collection of pictures of people who passed a job interview wearing a bow tie.

> Better a suit coat, IMO. Good luck on the interview - you’ll knock 'em dead.

Don’t wear a suit coat (or suit pants) unless you’re wearing a suit.

Sweater + sportcoat + trousers + bowtie (or necktie) = OK.

Sweater + suit + necktie = weird.

That, specially the “suit pants” part, would depend on the specific suit. Most of my brothers’ suit pants are indistinguishable by cut from other pants bought by themselves.

Matching a double-breasted jacket with anything other than its trousers, or at the very least trousers of an equivalent-quality suit: no way, and be very, very careful with the colors.

Sports ensemble: a pair of trousers and two jackets, one matching (suit) and one suiting but not matching (sporty).

Bein’ as I am of a certain age (similar to Sampiro’s, I believe), when I think of Poindexter, I think of the 1965 Barbie board game “Mystery Date.” [Poindexter](https://dn3pm25xmtlyu.cloudfront.net/photos/large/654409112.jpg?1347401186&Expires=1420894378&Signature=qV3yEAjs0dskAmS~fE5poZONajxw4-YzNEVp7fpLr7nmZ9o9dnKpxONdTRK~XeId71z9PtvkBwcSNd4E5qeixkF-EGk0TxaGoVh2PBQZ8NC~9ByXR8tjXJaiThqp2lIzP~p3oTyDH3exZP9v64ePV~hRwQGiNq3CN2-DRhtdFMI_&Key-Pair-Id=APKAIYVGSUJFNRFZBBTA) was the dweebie guy you did NOT want to show up as your mystery date. Interestingly, it is Ken who wears the bow tie.

I’d say for a librarian job, a bow tie would be fine. For most anything else it would look a little silly.
