Hey, women, are you listening? Don’t cut your hair. Ever. You can get it trimmed, if it looks ragged. We know it’s a pain. We know you can look good with short hair. We know how cute some girls can be with short hair. We don’t care. We prefer it long. ---

I really like short hair on women ala [Winona Ryder](http://outflux.net/images/collection/images/ryder-clean.jpg) but you REALLY need the face for it. I’ve seen drop dead gorgeous women who couldn’t pull it off. A good montage of hair styles on [Joey Heatherton](http://www.joeyheatherton.net/photos.htm) illustrates a range of looks. And I would add that long hair can really be tough to pull off in the [later years](http://www.celebritynooz.com/images/joey-now.jpg). On a side note, I now understand the controversy of Google thumbnails that appear with web addresses. They can bring up pictures of a risqué nature. ---

(bolding mine) Exactly. Except, I think the expectation of the culture in question is that women should have long hair, period, regardless of what suits them. I’m not saying this is your viewpoint, but from in this thread alone we have men saying “don’t ever cut your hair; long hair is always best”. I know I grew up hearing that and from the women I see clinging to their hair for dear life, I know a lot of women buy into it. I think that reflects a certain mentality. Perhaps by the time a woman gets married she has the selfconfidence to determine what looks best and works best for her lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong, if it looks good and she likes it then that’s excellent, but to wear it a certain way because “that’s what guys like” is just as stupid as cutting it because “she’s reached a certain age”. ---
