I’ve just been nominated/drafted/requested to be an assistant scout leader to a bunch of 11 year olds… may The Force be with them.

I have a question of where the World Crest patch goes on the shirt. We have a diagram of where to sew on all the other patches but not this one.

The Scout manual has no information and I don’t have a leader’s manual… is there one?

Any Scouting Dopers out there know where to locate this patch so it can be properly sewed on?

Thanks, CedricR.

If its the one I’m thinking of it goes on the left shoulder with the arc matching the seam.

According to [www.scouting.org](http://www.scouting.org) “centered horizontally over left pocket and vertically between left shoulder seam and top of pocket.”

see [http://www.scouting.org/media/insigniaguide/10J.aspx](http://www.scouting.org/media/insigniaguide/10J.aspx). Check out this page to be sure we are talking about the same patch.

Good luck with your duties; my 11 year old son just crossed over to Boy Scouts and I am going to be “promoted” from Assistant Webelos Leader to Assistant Scoutmaster.

Wow! Asked and answered in about 30 minutes! You guys rock!

AND… I only stuck myself once while pinning it in place for the seamtress and didn’t get any blood on the shirt. This must be my lucky day!

Looking at the image of the uniform, I found myself trying to remember the different merit badges. Sadly, few came to my aging mind.

You’re describing the location of the Council patch.

The World Crest is the purple patch on the front of the shirt “centered horizontally over the left pocket and vertically between the left shoulder seam and the top of the pocket” as described by **BigBadWolf**.

The patch can be seen in **boytyperanma** ’s link, but it actually looks a bit low. You’re supposed to be able to fit any knot patches you might have as well as the year pins above the pocket, too.

This is my fifth year as an adult leader in BSA–my son did four years in Cub Scouts, and he’s now coming up on one year in Boy Scouts.

I forget, what are the Knot patches for?

They are used on adult leader uniforms to represent earning of the Arrow of Light and/or Eagle Scout awards (when they were Scouts), as well as training recognition.

Various other Scout awards and recognitions are also represented by knots, including the awards for heroism and merit, as well as religious awards. Most of these can be worn by Scouts and adult leaders alike.

It seems that not only have they changed the council shoulder patch for my beloved Capital Area Council, but they offer a variety of different patches for the council. I have nothing against the designs, but I would prefer that there be only one patch for the council in order to show some kind of unity.

No big deal though.
