People will tell you that you should write like you speak, but that’s bullshit. There are two different forms of communication. When writing, as we are doing now, there are no facial cues. You can’t smile or raise your eyebrows when you are telling a joke. No body language, no tone of voice, just the words themselves. That may seem like a disadvantage, but remember, you have time to think. That time allows you to consider your audience, and who you are writing for. ---

That’s the ticket. Timing and body language, those are the issues. Smiling and raising your eyebrows while saying “perhaps that little pixie is courting this actual real life molester, hmm??” would have brought the fucking _house_ down face to face. You don’t have to worry about the content. Terrible + untrue = always a joke. It’s science! Try it with anything. ---
