At least that’s what my Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] tells me. And she wouldn’t lie. She asked a boy to go to the Homecoming dance with her. He accepted. She was all happy. She bought the tickets yesterday. He told her yesterday he couldn’t get off work - he’d waited too long to ask and all his coworkers were going to the dance, so… Poor kid. This was going to be her first big dance since breaking up with her bf in January. Most of the guys she would consider dating are already going with others. Her dad and I offered suggestions. We figured we could round up someone who still has most of his teeth. She wasn’t impressed. Nor is she impressed that I never attended a Homecoming dance or a Prom, and I turned out just fine, right? _RIGHT?_ She’s still going [sub]I need to finish hemming her dress[/sub] and if she’s lucky, she’ll find someone to buy her extra ticket. Meanwhile, she persists in her declaration about the poopyheadedness of boys in general and one in particular. Ah, youth… ---

Girls are **so** fickle! I don’t see why she doesn’t simply go to where the boy who agreed to go with her works, sit there and admire him all night. I mean, he \* would \* have gone with her if he could have, right? : D & R : ---

**JC** - Quit his job?!?!? My baby doesn’t need to be dating a _BUM_!!! Sheesh, wait till _your_ kid brings home some scraggly, unemployed artiste and says “But Daaaady, I _looooooooove_ him!!” Then the hand will be on the other foot, I tell you! **JC of M** - I didn’t mention - they work at the same roller rink. She put in her request for the night off last month. He procrastinated. Somehow, I think the chances of her hanging around the DJ booth instead of going to the dance is something like, um, zip. One thing I’m glad about - she used to have a huge crush on the son of a friend of ours. Then she worked with him on a BattleBots project and decided that he’s a jerk, and a lazy jerk at that. I was afraid she’d mention him as a possibility - that was a scary thought. ---

Hell I only went to one Homecoming dance and both Proms. All of them were last minute deals too. I had a date for my Junior prom then a couple of weeks before she decided she didn’t want to go. I ended up talking to someone else three days before the prom and got a date. Same type of thing happened next year. She could still get lucky and find someone like that. ---

**FCM** why not really really embarrass her and offer to go with her yourself so she’ll have company. It’ll be fun watching her go through the floor right there in front of ya. Well, we’re not in Montreal, but this part of Florida is not known for its tolerance. I would expect most, if not all, gays in her school would keep that fact to themselves, if only for self-preservation. Her dating criteria include intelligence, sense of humor, common sense, and personal hygiene - and apparently boys meeting these requirements are few and far between at her school. As for accompanying her myself, out of deference for my hearing - no. I chaperoned 2 dances at her middle school and my ears are still ringing! Looks like this is going to be one of those character-building experiences we all hear about. Whether she finds another date (the dance is 4 days away) or just goes with her girl friends, she’ll still have a good time. I may reimburse her for the unused ticket if it comes to that… ---

Boys are definitely poopyheads. I think it’s a little too soon to tell your daughter that when boys get older they just turn into immature poopyheads. no need to burst her bubble yet. ---

Well, it appears PoopyHeadBoy (PHB) is poopier than I first thought. I got the story originally from a second hand source and I misunderstood the circumstances. But tonight I went out to dinner with the Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] and got the facts straight. PHB was _not_ on the schedule to work. However, when the guy who was scheduled to work that evening said that he wanted to be able to go to the dance with _his_ girlfriend, PHB magnanimously volunteered to take his shift. Somehow, he didn’t get around to telling my poor baby that he wouldn’t go with her after all till after she bought his ticket. Her observation: “I guess he didn’t know that I like him.” She’s really hurt. My observation - she deserves better. What a poopyhead!! I wouldn’t be a high school kid again for anything. ---
