I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Romero once. Very nice man.
I hope his last words were “choke on 'em”.

My wife and I were at a double feature of The Blob and The Lost Skeleton Returns Again at the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, PA yesterday, and during the Q&A with the filmmakers after Skeleton they told the audience that Romero had died. Rather than doing a slow motion run out from the theater as an homage to The Blob, we all sat and watched the first five minutes of Night, applauding whenever George’s name popped up. It was an appropriate tribute from a theater full of SF and horror nerds.
How sad! A great film-maker passes. At least he lived a long and productive life. May you cavort with the ghouls for all eternity, Mr. Romero!
I know that in “Night of the Living Dead” they were referred to as “ghouls”, not “zombies”. And the only other “Living Dead” movie I’ve seen is the original “Dawn of the Dead”, back when it first came out, so I don’t remember. Was “zombie” used in the later movies?
The first Romero movie to use ‘zombie’ was Land of the Dead. He actively avoided it until then.
I can’t remember if O’Bannon or the non-Romero remakes used it.
They’re coming to get you, Geoooooooorge!!
To the best of my knowledge, it was the Italians who first solidly linked the name “zombie” to the living dead in that form. Even back to Ed Wood they were more reanimated corpses and/or ghouls.
There’s only two things expected to outlive us as a species. One is the undead/zombies. I’m not saying they got their leader & are coming, but how else do you explain the other one running for their lives?
