I don’t agree with what Manning did while in the Army. I think Manning should be incarcerated for much longer than she was sentenced. But at least she didn’t run off like a little bitch and hide in a foreign country. She stood by what she did and she took her punishment like a man. If she wants to be considered a woman, then so be it. ---

If he wanted to live as a woman, he should have made that decision before he stole classified information and gave it to Wikileaks. The Army is under no obligation to play along with his fantasies at this time, and they _certainly_ don’t need to be paying for him to have surgery - he can deal with that when he’s 60 and they let him out. ---

This is a great opportunity for Conservatives to show how worthless they are as a whole, by using Manning’s crimes as an excuse to make bigoted, hateful, transphobic remarks. I mean, they’re not even pretending, really - they’re just looking for any opportunity they can to smear their vile hate all over the place. ---

So I just wanted to clarify this point. You angry self-righteous taxpayers in this thread, you’re just peachy with Manning getting an unprecedented sentence decades above that of actual torturers and murderers, which is clearly for show and to make an example of him, that will probably cost a million or more to have imprisoned him by the time he’s out? How did you feel about the previous three years of suicide watch while he has been under detention, during a large portion of which his cell was guarded virtually around the clock? Were you outraged at that waste? Not even getting into the revelations of what he actually leaked, which is a separate argument. I’m disappointed with this mentality so many people have, where if our government is abusing or humiliating somebody, spare no expense, but God forbid somebody get a little medical attention. ---

I’d hardly consider elective plastic surgery to be “medical attention”. When was the last time anyone died for want of a boob job? Now, to answer your question with a question; how would you feel if Bradley Manning had hanged himself in his cell because he _wasn’t_ on suicide watch and being watched around the clock? ---

You mean here or on other sites? Cuz what I see here is a fairly deliberate absence of empathy for _this guy_ who would be a piece of shit irrespective of his personal issues. I think libs & cons would be in general agreement he deserves only the most basic of human rights, but very little actual respect, from his own countrymen. ---

You are instead letting it pass on a “As long as I like you”, which is a really sick way of having your bigotry and ignorance while pretending you’re “not one of those mean people”. You don’t get to scream and rant about one gay person being a total f-slur and then go “Oh, but I don’t have anything against gay men, I just hate this one guy.” You don’t get to use gendered insults and vile, misogynistic language against a woman, no matter who it is, and go “Oh, but I don’t have anything against women, I just hate Ann Coulter”. ---
