Well, it’s been a few days. Things are coming along nicely.
Here’s the brand new, non-terrifying electrical panel, complete with upgraded service. Previously, the entire 1500sf apartment was powered by a whopping 40 amps. When I showed the electrician the existing panel, which appeared to be wired by a blind monkey on crack, his response was “yeesh.” When an electrician says that, you know there are problems.
New drywall chase for the heating pipes. There will be a grill with louvers (sp?) in the center when they’re done. Previously, there had just been exposed pipes with a cheapass bent sheet-metal grate around them.
New drywall and electrical boxes roughed in for the countertop GFCIs. That’s the wetwall so there’s space behind to run wiring; but for most of it they had to cut channels in the solid plaster which is on top of masonry (no lathe or studs.)
Here is the new doorframe for the laundry room. A disused transom above (which had been boarded up) has been removed and brought flush with the wall. You can also see a new light switch roughed in on the left, and where they had to channel and patch the plaster to run the circuit. Previously, a single switch controlled the kitchen and laundry room lights.
New plumbing roughed in. There are now new-style ball valves on the hot and cold stems; required by the building so they don’t have to shut off the entire riser upon subsequent renovations.
Guess what this capped off pipe hiding inside a wall was for.
Hint:
It’s six feet above the floor and teed off the main gas line for the old stove.
In addition to all that stuff, they’ve spent a lot of time touching up and skimcoating the ceilings in the kitchen and dining room. Some of the new appliances have also been delivered, and cabinets will be coming next week!
Sorry for the poor quality on the pics; the new light fixtures are not in yet and my iPhone camera is sucky.
