There seems to be a lot of noise here mixed in with the facts. Websites like the CDC’s may be the best resource for accurate information. However, one thing that has been recommended by the CDC is to pinch your nose closed when swimming under water in fresh water. They also claim you shouldn’t stir up the bottom as, I assume, this is the home for this ameoba. FYI: This has nothing to do with waste run-off from farms, as one suggested. Also, this ameoba is only harmful when it enters through the nasal passages. But, please Google around for the facts on this. As for warm waters, I thought I read one case is from MN. Just how warm is warm? ---
