Well, luci has shown himself to be devoted to the “cause” BG is also devoted to the “cause.” If BG was posting about something not related to embarrassing Republicans or George Bush I imagine 'luci wouldn’t bother to defend him. I don’t see him jumping in a lot of threads to defend other posters who get pitted for “posting too often” about stuff that would be better suited to a LiveJournal or a blog.
I think a lot of it is also 4) there’s nothing really wrong with most of his posts taken individually. As I said, I prefer a GD OP where the OP interjects an argument they’ve actually put some effort into with the opening post itself. But the occasional “here’s something that happened, what do you think?” Isn’t bad. When it starts to get bad is when that is happening several times a week all from the same poster, in my opinion.
What do you mean by “intellectually honest”? He’s comes across to me as just another partisan hack, who’s main objective is to get more Democrats elected. I’m unimpressed.
It was mildly funny the first time he used it… back in 2003. After the 25th time, it loses some of its luster. Old dogs gotta learn some new tricks.
Weelll…I confess to not reading much of his stuff after I figured out the pony only has the one trick. But recently I asked him if he was equally outraged by a Democrat doing what he was lambasting a Republican for, he (perhaps grudgingly), admitted he was.
Maybe I give to much credit. As I hinted, he sure won’t be putting anything up about the Hsu mess, but I’m sure if it was a Republican fundraiser, he’d have three of his blogposts up already.
ETA: As for elucidator, I’m relatively sure he practices his zingers in front of a mirror in the desperate hope he will get to say them in person one day, so you can’t expect him to throw away a perfectly good comeback (even if it’s nonsensical and, quite honestly, not nearly as clever as he seems to think it is) just because he’s used it already!

I come bearing statistics! BG has started 750 GD threads in just over 3 years, and 301 in the last year. I think an almost 1 thread a day rate is excessive.

What we need is a current events forum for posters like BrainGlutton. Such an addition would end up taking a lot of runoff from GD, MPSIMS and the Pit. And those of us who enjoy reading discussions of current events on the board would not have to worry about treading on the toes of the GD regulars.

If you look at the number of “views” in a tread vs. the number of “replies” there is always more of the former. Part of the value of the board is the ability to read things of interest, and there is no requirement of posting. I don’t have to participate in every single one of his cut-n-paste thread to have an opinion.
And I never said that there was a requirement to post. But if your going to bitch about the content, why don’t you step up and produce some yourself?
For my money, like I said before, I don’t come here to read what Poster X or Poster Y has to say. I come to read what everyone has to say and contribute my own thoughts. That means that it makes no fucking difference who started a thread. If I’m interested in the topic, I’ll read it. If I have a thought nobody else has expressed, I’ll offer it.
Are people here really selecting the threads they are interested in by who the OP is? That’s almost as sad as John Mace’s vendetta against BrainGlutton, or his vendetta against topics of a certain type.
