Damn! Beat me to the punch. Yes, I have read this book. For anybody who has not read this book, there is a section in the book where Hannibal eats another man’s brain, **while the man is still alive**.

> Why doesn’t some company that manufactures—well, cans—brains make a TV commercial with “Night of the Living Dead” zombies eating their product and going, “mmmm . . . brains . . .”

Actually, my brother did something similar to my sister placing the can of brains on her windowsill before acting the zombie… But really it was more in reference to the Simpsons take-off of _Night of the Living Dead_ where the zombies tap Homer’s head and figure it’s not worth the trouble.

Actually, the zombies calling for brains was from _Return of the Living Dead_ a horror-comedy by Dan O’Bannon.

_Night of the Living Dead_ was George Romero’s first zombie pic, which was followed by _Dawn of the Dead_ and _Day of the Dead_

Brains and eggs are quite common in the south, as are grits. It’s not unusual. I can remember my mom fixing them for my dad and I know that I tasted them, I just don’t remember the taste. Of course we also love banana sandwiches with mayo here…and my cousins from Illinois are amazed at that. Go figure.

OK, so to recap:

Ate but doesn’t remember taste:
Mjollnir, fuzzy-wuzzy

Tasted once, but say brains didn’t taste like anything in particular:
cygnus, TVeblen

But so far, no one who really enjoys brains. I mean, some people crave Circus Peanuts. Or banana and mayo (which I must imagine has nearly the same consistency as brains). So, brain lovers, come out of the closet and declare your love for the food that oozes!

A local DJ recently ate some pork brains on his show, on a dare. Quite a description of the pinkish gravy. He was really carrying on, completely grossed out.

My wife says that scrambled with eggs, pork brains are quite good, tasting a bit like ham.

She used to eat squirrel brains. (As a kid, she lived in rural TN.) I don’t think I could get past the part where you crack open the skull of the fried critter - with the eyeballs still in it.

When I was a kid in West Texas we used to eat calves brains and scrambled eggs.
We were too poor to afford the brains very often so mom made “Mock Brains and Eggs” using oatmeal.
I don’t really remember what either one tasted like. I think I am glad I don’t…

My grandmother used to fix brains and eggs from time to time and I vaguely remember tasting them. She only did it when one of my farmer great-uncles got them for her fresh though–no cans. As far as I recall, they tasted more or less like plain scrambled eggs. She also fixed squirrel, but that was a no-brainer, so to speak–just fried like chicken.

However, I did participate once in a heavenly dinner based on the one in “Babette’s Feast.” Of course we all had to do the quail brain sucking thing. Fortunately, quite a lot of incredibly fine wine had gone down by that point. And quail brains, as you might imagine, are very small.

Well, I had them several times at home (Europe). My mother made them with a white cream sauce, and we ate it with pasta. I enjoyed it, but haven’t had it in years, so maybe by now my tastes have changed.

My uncle loved brains & eggs.
I was raised to think of them as an East Texas breakfast.
The cholesterol count shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. Aren’t all organs cholesterol super-rich?
I’ve had to curb my monthly Sunday morning menudo madness because of that choly issue.
