Duarte sent off. That was a harsh call. Ticos have to pretend to be Greece now. Park the bus. On the bright side, if Greece scores one, and it goes to PK’s, maybe it’ll get interesting. ---

They just showed a replay of the goal, and it seems like the Greek keeper got wrongfooted. His first move, at the moment of the strike, was to his right, but the ball did not come of the foot cleanly. I don’t think the ball went where the Costa Rican player intended; i think it was a bit of luck! And now a red card. This will make it interesting. ---

OTOH, since he’s out with the red for this one, should Costa Rica advance, Duarte is back card-free, right? Or is he sitting then the next one? Is the ref just wanting to hand yellows to all the Ticos? ---

He sits the next if they advance. I think they’re just going to try to make the last 20 as ugly as possible - and we weren’t exactly starting off from pretty. ---

I think that players being substituted should be required to exit the field of play as rapidly as reasonably possible. Many of them move towards the sideline as slowly as humanly possible. It’s incredibly irritating. ---
