Gah, personal bug-bear here: commentators stating that a direct free kick at about 22 yards is “a great chance”. No it fucking isn’t, it’s really rare to score from there for obvious reasons. Gah! ETA: Cameroon getting gubbed now 3-0 , they are rotten. ---

The commentators think that second Croatia goal was a good one. To me, the choice to shoot was selfish and the fact he actually scored was a bit lucky. Am I the only one? I didn’t see the first half, but in the second, Cameroon really are playing poorly. 90% of the time they don’t seem bothered at all. ---

The Cameroon keeper screwed up by leaning early, which gave room for the shot. The first goal was definitely against the run of play. But Cameroon have been deflated since the red card. ---

It was a strange goal. A misplaced goal kick, a lackluster defender just escorting Perisic and a keeper turning to the wrong side. Cameroon’s defense is a mess. ---

The finish worked because the keeper screwed up, but when there are two other players almost guaranteed to score, it seems a bit of a gamble that the keeper won’t be effective - he hadn’t let four in at that point. In slow motion, you can see the keeper going down too soon, but if Perisic had time to see that and change his plan, I’ll be impressed. It was pretty quick, and, to my untrained eyes, it looked like he didn’t have time to do anything he hadn’t planned before the keeper started going down. ---

For a team winning 4-0, Croatia really aren’t that impressive, actually. They could be winning 6-0 with some of those chances and that awful defending. ---

No, Croatia are good, but not that impressive, but Cameroon’s performance is the worst I’ve seen so far. ---

Ok, I’m making an honest effort at getting into this. That said, I have a question… Why is Cameroon only playing with 10 men, and is that why they’re getting their asses handed to them so badly? ---

When a player commits an especially egregious or dangerous foul, he’s shown a red card and is forced to leave the field. His team plays a man down. The same thing happens if a player is given two yellows in the same match (where a yellow is given for a dangerous or reckless challenge, but not up to the standards of a red card). ---

Because one of their players committed one of the stupidest fouls I’ve ever seen in the first half and got a red card, which means instant suspension. And having one player more for such a long time usually makes a difference, but Cameroon would have lost anyway tonight. ---

Cameroon were just really poor overall, in so many ways. Assou-Ekotto could have had a red for headbutting his own teammate. Horrible. ---

The latter responded with something that was not pleasing to Benoît, who then responded with the head-butt, out of sight of the refs but not the cameras. Instant red card if any official had seen it. ---

I’m still angry when I think about it now. Same thing happened in 2012 against Italy. Hopefully Löw will stick to a more courageous tactic these times.
