I don’t think that was a goal. The whistle to end the match went just before the shot. Yep; no goal. 5-2. Fun game to watch. France were excellent, especially on the break. ---

Strange move by the ref to end the game in the middle of an attack. Whatever, France looked very strong so far. ---

I very much enjoyed France’s game – Giroud’s high boot withstanding. I expected the Swiss to do better, but was sure going in that this French side was not going to perform as they did in 2010. Switzerland only scored goals because The France starting cruising, nonchalance all the way. Best not do that against stronger opposition. Credit to the Swiss for not giving up! ---

The point of simultaneous games is mostly to get rid of the advantage that teams in the second game would have over the teams in the first game, not to really reduce the advantage that teams have when they know a draw or even a loss is sufficient to advance. ---

Well I’m aware of that, I witnessed the shameful [Disgrace of Gijón - Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Germany_1%E2%80%930_Austria) Germany-Austria 1-0 in 1982. My point was the ban of electronics on the bench. ---

I understand that that particular rule was introduced after the scandalous Germany-Austria game that was played during the 1982 WC in Spain. Edit: Curses, ninja-ed again! ---

My bad, I was supposed to be responding to \*\*Frank’s \*\*earlier post which suggested that the chicanery this rule addresses has to do with having electronic devices or not. Knowing the score of the other game while that game is still going on can give a team an advantage, but that is not the advantage that the rule of simultaneously played third games is designed to address. ---

Ecuador leading Honduras 2-1, but Honduras should have received a penalty a couple of minutes back for holding in the box. The defender basically bear-hugged the Honduran player. I don’t know how the referee decided not to award the penalty. ---

So, if people were forced to take a choice between A and B before it all started where would the balance have been? Is it more likely that CONCACAF teams will A. Win 0 games or B. Win 4+ games ? ---

Costa Rica is a great surprise, but let’s not crown CONCACAF just yet. Mexico, the US, and Honduras are performing pretty much exactly as predicted. ---
