_This is a transcript of an actual radio transmission between a US Navy Vessel and the Canadians off the coast of Newfoundland in 1995. Released by the Chief of Naval Operations._ Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid collision. US Ship: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid collision. Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision. US Ship: This is the Captain of a US Navy Ship. I say again, divert YOUR course. Canadians: Negative. I say again, you will have to divert your course. US Ship: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER, USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST VESSEL IN THE UNITED STATES ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. This is in the Pit so that we can point our fingers and mock **POWER\_station** for being silly enough to believe a story that I saw (with different actors) in a collection of stories by Bennet Cerf collected in the 1930s and 1940s. Some folks will believe any foolish thing if they believe it makes someone they don’t like look foolish. ---
