“There are enough sugars in the wheat flour to get the yeast going. Added sugars may get the yeast going faster, but they aren’t necessary.”
Giles, care to explain that? To my knowledge, wheat won’t have any sugars available (to yeast )unless it’s malted, and the bread flours I use typically aren’t.
But not the 100% Natural Pepperidge Farm posted by Unauthorized Cinnamon.
I just came back from the store and picked me up a loaf.
However, as in Cinnamon’s link, sugar is indeed listed in the ingredients.
I just don’t get it.
When I was a little kid, it seemed like Wonder Bread was the standard. Now Americans have sort of graduated to wheat, but we still have to have everything sweet. It’s the same thing with peanut butter and a lot of other foods.
Ummmmm . . .
I think I’ll leave this one alone.
You do that.
(:D)
The only Pepperidge Farm bread that I’ve found that doesn’t have HFCS is the Dark Pump. And I think the Arnold bread has ONE variety without HFCS, too. I haven’t seen the 100% Natural PepFarm in my store. I’ll have to look again.
Can you guys believe I forgot I’d started this thread?
I must be under more stress than I realized!
