I just found out about 2 weeks ago, quite by accident. My husband and I have been trying for a few months, and my period was a couple days late. Looking back, I was having symptoms, but I attributed them to having a bad head cold for about 2 weeks. (I’m tired? Must be I’m run down from the cold. Nauseous? Must be from swallowing all that mucus. Period late? My system must be out of whack from the cold) I went back to my GP, because I still had a wicked sore throat. The nurse was asking me about my symptoms, I told her I was a couple days late. She said they should do a pregnancy test, in case the doc wanted to give me any meds. So I went and peed in a cup, and a couple minutes later she came in and said “Congratulations! You’re pregnant!” She said the positive line came up almost right away. This is my first- all my other children are 4-legged and furry. I’m about 6 and a half weeks along. I had a scare earlier this week, I was having really bad lower abdominal cramps that lasted all day. So my Gyn made me an appt. for the next day, and wanted me to get a sonogram. MAY BE TMI- Skip the next paragraph is you don’t want to read about women’s internal parts- The Gyn said there was a little bit of blood at the mouth of my cervix, but everything looked normal and felt okay. The sonogram technician said there was a thin layer of blood around my uterus, but everything looked okay. So everything was okay and in the right place. The doc said that sometimes women may bleed a little, for no reason, and that the cramps were the body’s way of trying to stop the bleeding. I haven’t had any bleeding yet, thank goodnness. She told me to take it easy for the rest of the week, no going to work, put my feet up, and I can’t do anything like lifting or things like pushing a mop or a vacuum cleaner. You kow I’m just heartbroken about that!😉 The upside to that whole encounter is that everythings okay and we got to see the baby and hear it’s heartbeat! It was incredible!! Up until then, I was still having periods of disbelief about being pregnant, but after that I was like, “I am a mommy!” Hearing the heartbeat, and knowing that it belongs to the little being inside me, was just amazing. (I’m tearing up just thinking about it) I know this has turned in to a long post, but I have to say this to all the moms out there: I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS POSSIBLE TO BE NAUSEOUS AND HUNGRY AT THE SAME TIME!! With me, it’s not “morning sickness”, it’s “any time of the day queasiness”. Fortunately I’ve been able to eat okay, except for yesterday and today, I feel worse, and I don’t want to eat, and there I are times when I feel like I may just start hurling at any second. Taking small sips of ice water seems to help. The only thing I cannot abide any more is eggs. Even if I see them in a commercial, I get grossed out. I’m tired a lot, have to take naps and go to bed early. My right knee bothers me and sometimes I have restless legs. And BOY am I gassy! Luckily, my ‘emissions’ are odorless and soundless-- so far! I have also found that how much sleep I get correlates to how yucky I feel the next day. And that I MUST eat a good snack before bed, and munch a couple saltines after I wake up, but before I start moving around. And I can’t eat large meals anymore! We’d get a pizza, I’d easily eat half- now I’m lucky if I can eat two pieces at one sitting! I know you’re supposed to eat several small meals a day, and that is better for me. Haven’t had heartburn yet, knock on wood. All this talking about food makes me hungry. Sorry for the long post, but I’m excited, and I’m sure all the moms out there can identify. I’m sure I’ll be asking lots of questions about things as they come up. ---

Congrats! I must say your timing is excellent. This way, you will be in the 3rd trimester when the weather is nice and cold, and the maternity clothes can be easily covered by a coat. Listen to your Dr. and get lots of rest. Keep us updated! I can’t wait until you feel the little one move for the first time. :::wanders away to look at baby pictures:::: ---

To reiterate what everyone else has said, **CONGRATULATIONS!!!** That’s absolutley wonderful. Babies are great, especially if you’re looking to have one. best of luck on being a new mommy, and remember to take it easy (screw the next couple of weeks, milk it for all it’s worth and have a nice LOOOONG vacation from chores and other tedious tasks 🙂 ). Just remember, when baby comes along, older “siblings” tend to get jealous, so make sure you keep special private time aside for your other “children.” Best of luck to you and Mr. Moggy, and congratulations once again. ---

Congratulations!! We Doper Mommies stand ready to answer any questions you might have! I’m getting all wistful, thinking of that wonderful first time you feel the baby moving. With my first, it was 19 weeks. By my third I could feel movement by the 10th or 11th week. ---
