Okay, I hope this is impersonal enough. Why do parents buy this crap? Well, I mean the sugar infested grains they call cereal? When did cereal start? I buy all my cereal in the health food storre, because of the lack of 50% or more of sugar. Didn’t families used to eat fruit and grains for breakfast before they started packaging it to hipe up the kids? ---

My parents fed me Strawberry Shortcake cereal (until I was 19 😃 ). It was better than cooking. You got something against cereal? What did you eat for breakfast today? I had raisin bran (I know, boring) because I am too lazy to make eggs benedict every morning. Do you have another suggestion rather than cereal, or are you just getting tired of the Sienfeld reruns? ---

I like French Toast Crunch. But I think it was a novelty item because I haven’t seen it in a long time. I love cereal. ---

Uh oh, vanilla, I knew you’d be stirring up a can o’ crap with that question. Me personally, I have no views on the matter, unless you count the fact that if AppleJacks didn’t exist I would slash my wrists. But I like a good bowl of GrapeNuts from time to time as well. ---

aahhh. Cap n’ Crunch with Crunch Berries. That’s a good one as is the Peanut Butter flavored Cap n’ Crunch. My question, whatever happened to the little prizes they used to put in the boxes? First thing I did, as a child, upon getting home from the supermarket was to head straight for the cereal box, and plunge an arm in and grope around until I found the prize. I don’t eat that much cereal any more but if they put those prizes back, I might be willing to reconsider. ---

Golden Grahms here. I hardly ever even eat those anymore. I used to eat cereal all the time, then one day woke up and realized I can’t stand it anymore. Now I almost always skip breakfast. ---

Well I’ve been eating Cheerios since I was 4 years old, and I will never stop. In fact, I will insist that my wife eat Cheerios before I marry her. And I will feed my children Cheerios. My dog eats Cheerios. And I ain’t talkin about that bullshit “cinnamon apple” or those monkey-felching “honey nut” Cheerios. Oh no. I’m talking about the original, badass, hardcore, plain ol’ Cheerios in a Yellow Box. Yessiree. Heaven in a Yellow Box. Add sliced up strawberries or blueberries to the mix (whole milk, thank you) and it’s better than an orgasm. ---

Yummy. I buy sugary cereal _all the time_. Frosted Flakes, Cocoa Pebbles, Count Chocula… Don’t eat 'em for breakfast, though. Breakfast is OJ and a bagel or English muffin. I use them as a dessert. ---

My cereal: Corn Pops. Love those puffy things. Eat 'em by the handful. About the beginning of cereal: I recall reading somewhere that the Pilgrims were among the first to eat a sort of breakfast cereal: leftover popcorn, doused with milk. Sounds yummy. Can anyone verify/shoot it down? ---

**What!** all this time and no one mentions Fruity Pebbles? Far and away the best damn cereal around, IMHO. I think, and others probably agree but don’t want to comment on the obvious, that giving kids these cereals takes care of any number of issues: 1. Advertising. I can’t believe how aggresive these companies go after kids. And, no, I’m not a ‘but what about our children’ freak. But you gotta admit, they’re persuasive. 2. convenience. Who the Hell wants to whip up a huge breakfast that early in the morning. Eggs, bacon, O.J., a cinnamon roll and toast? Or… a bowl of milk and sh\*t? 3. Energy. Seeing that most kids can’t stand coffee, or pop for that matter, that early in the morning, a good dose of massive sugar can go a long way to getting them out the door. 4. Guilt. You gotta give the kid something to be a good mom. Apple? no way. Bannana? gets old. Hmmm, grape-nuts? yeah, right. Super duper sugar puffs? you’re the best mom!! worked for me when I was young. Too many more to go into. You know the drill. ---

See “The Road to Wellville” it’s quite good and has my two favorite actors John Cussack and Matthew Broderick. Some of you might be too young to remember Quisp cereal. They stopped making it in the mid 70’s, though I’ve heard it is available again in limited areas of the country. It was a bit like capn Crunch but not as hard, with a slight cinnamon taste.Whenever I think about my childhood (late '60’s) I remember the ads for that stuff. That little dink with the propeller on his head. Ahhhh, the late 60’s. There was a mystique to it that shall never return.
