“Breakfast in bed” is one of those things that people do on TV or talk about doing as a luxury/a bit of spoiling. A great start for a Mother’s Day celebration or the beginning of a perfect vacation day or something. I’ve never had it, but it seems like it might be a little awkward and messy (especially if you involve condiments). If someone did it for me, of course, I would be delighted at the thought and effort, but it does seem like a lot of work to be able to eat in a setting not really ideal for eating. How about you? Have you had breakfast in bed? Have you made it? Do you enjoy it or think you would? Do you wish you had it more often? Or is it not really your thing? ---

No, it doesn’t appeal to me. In all of those movies and television shows that show this, it’s always served on one of those [bed trays](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71TaATQ77rL._AC_SL1500_.jpg), designed to elevate the surface above your legs, usually including a big glass of orange juice. First of all, you’d have to already own one of those tray, and then what happens if that glass of juice spills on the bed? That’s a big mess. Not to mention, the crumbs from the toast that’s also always part of the scene. ---

I had breakfast in bed with my ex B. numerous times. We used to fix breakfast on Sunday mornings, put it on a tray and eat it in bed, though we didn’t put the tray into the bed, but sat/lie in bed and eat from the tray that was placed besides (it was a futon bed so we didn’t have to reach low). It was alway fun. During our long kitchen remodel we ate a lot of meals in bed. It was nice to return to table eating after two years! ---

when I see folks on TV sound asleep until a child (or other family member) wakes them up with a tray for their Breakfast in Bed: Hey, doesn’t everyone have to PEE right after being asleep? you don’t just dig into breakfast, do you? ---

Neither the Mrs. nor I care for breakfast in bed, but I LOVE my breakfast in my La-Z-Boy recliner chair every morning. Of course, I put breakfast together myself, then move to that chair & read my kindle and have my iced cold brew coffee with half and half, along with waffles or hot oat groats with my home-made maple syrup and butter. ---

I found it messy as I had IV tubes stuck in my arms which made it difficult. The food wasn’t bad though. Could order whatever I wanted, too. ---

Literally _every_ day for us. Once I’ve got up, brought in the newspaper and had a pee, I bring my wife a mug of tea, toast and marmalade and a poached egg on toast as a regular breakfast in bed. Plus some fruit (usually apple and pear). No tray, just sat up in bed with the plate and a tea towel underneath to catch crumbs. I’ll get back into bed to have a bowl of cereal, toast and honey, fruit and a glass of milk. Paper gets read, phone gets checked, then get back up to get dressed and ready for work. So breakfast in bed is totally normal for us. Probably because the kitchen is small (no breakfast bar) and the main lounge/diner feels a bit too ‘open’. ---

My wife doesn’t want to eat anything until she’s used the loo and brushed her teeth, morning mouth plus food on a full bladder and a greasy face (all of the same apply to me as well) is not fun. BUT - bringing a sick spouse ‘breakfast’ in bed, normally a hot drink, and some homemade flax seed and oat gruel - is actually appreciated. So a step down in severity from eating in bed in the hospital, but with the same personal touch of the traditional breakfast in bed. When I’m sick I normally prefer to collapse on the couch and have hot beverages and salty snacks brought to me, real food though is normally too much if I feel sick enough to just want to lie down. ---

I say I have it maybe 4 times a year, and make it about as much for my wife, and a couple times for my kids. ---

When my wife was pregnant she had a built in tray. I’d make her a bowl of cereal and she would lay in bed, set the bowl on her plump belly and go to town. It’s one of my fondest preggo moments. Lol ---

It might have been more of a luxury before central heating. My experiences with breakfast in bed: As a child I would typically have breakfast in bed, watching TV before getting ready for school, the reason was my parents wanted quite time in the rest of the house. Food was on a tray that would either be on the bed or on a rolling table next to it. It was quite normal for me and did’t feel awkward. When the tray was on the bed I would typically eat sitting with legs crossed, not in the lying down position we typically see w/ regards to the OP. And when using the table I would sit on the bed side as my chair. When I was hiking the Appalachian Trail sometimes I set up my coffee so I could get it ready and enjoy it before I got out of the sleeping bag with the minimum of effort. When I got up I had to turn on the gas valve and click the igniter (water was already in it), then took my mug I opened the instant pack and creamer pack into all it which I had next to the Jetboil stove, by then the water was ready to pour. It did feel like a great luxury to have that nice hot cup of Joe while still in the warm bag. ---
