Breaking Bad 4.04 "Bullet Points" 8/7

I don’t remember the line, but that was definitely a drawing of Walt Whitman next to it (one made from this picture).

It’s kind of funny that twixt flashbacks and karaoke Gale’s had more screentime and lines since he died than he did before.

I love Hank’s shirts. They “hang well” on guys with a paunch. Anyone know what they’re called?
ETA: The poem is the same one Gale recited here. It’s called When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer (which Walt corrected into learned when Hank was reading it, and it is by Whitman. I wonder if the fact that in addition to the same initials they’re both named Walt will become significant.

It’s a real poem: When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer

Last season, when Walt and Gale first started working together they were discussing the appeal of science and Gale recited that poem (“The Learned Astronomer”). Walt wasn’t familiar with it and Gale told him that it was by Walt Whitman. (Bartleby.com confirms this. 180. When I heard the Learn’d Astronomer - Collection at Bartleby.com)

If I remember correctly this was towards the beginning of that season. This incident makes me wonder it the writers were planning this far ahead, or if the initials coincidence was purely unintentional and the writer’s later noticed it and used it.

I thought it was established that shipments go out to all of the chicken joints across the SW. Is it one truck that goes to all of them, with Mike in the back the whole time? Or does Mike ride in every single shipment? Or could Gus have an informant in the Mexican Cartel?
Anyway, if Mike guards all of them, he has excellent time management skills. New Victor, who seems more silent then Victor, must be in charge of surveillance.

For some reason, it bothered me that nobody shut the door behind the White family entering their house. I mean, the other two people were clearly handicapped. The responsibility clearly fell on Walt Sr.

I mostly watch the show for the criminal aspect and sometimes get bored with the drama aspect… on the other hand if it was all shooting and meth and no slow tension drama it wouldn’t be the same show. Sopranos season 3 got really familial and emotional in the middle and then they wrote the rest of the show more mobby.

Whoever said it was lazy writing for them to have Walt to dump his anxieties on Saul was absolutely right. That haivng been said I enjoyed being brought up to date like that.

I was thinking the same thing. Mike couldn’t ride every shipment and if they had an armed guard in each one then surely Mike is too important to use as one of them.

So they must have had a tip and been expecting this, right? But if they were expecting something like that wouldn’t they have had more than just one armed man or, at the very least, wouldn’t he have had more than a hand gun? It didn’t make a lot of sense to me.

What do you think of this for a satisfying conclusion to the series: Hank, Marie, and baby Holly riding off into the sunset with Walt’s money.

I think it’s significant that Hank and Marie are childless. I don’t remember that they’ve talked about it, but Marie loves little Holly, and being childless might explain some of her issues. So I can see Walt and Skyler out of the picture (dead or in prison) and Hank and Marie raising Holly.

The tubs in the truck were leaking some kind of grayish-blue liquid after they were shot up, which didn’t look like any foodstuff I know of. So, I suspect this was a supply shipment — chemicals going to the lab, not meth going from the lab.

But I’m not very sure of that.

I think they’re bowling shirts.

Yeah, I agree, but there’s never been a lot of logic behind the character of Mike. If he’s Gus’ chief enforcer why was he doing freelance work for Saul in the first place? They were working together long before Walt, Jesse, and the blue meth showed up and made it reasonable for Gus to take an interest.

It’s pretty clear that the writers realized Mike was a cool character and want to use him as much as possible, including coming up with scenes with no logic for the sole purpose of giving him a chance to be a bad ass.

Where’s Walt Jr. in this scenario?

Haven’t considered him. Off at college, probably. Hadn’t thought of Gus or Mike either, just Hank and Marie with the baby and the money. Something good to come from all the mess.

They showed this in one of the episode previously when they demonstrated the distribution chain - it’s raw chicken batter.

I could be mistaken but, as I recall it, that episode showed tubs of powder, not liquid, which might have been chicken coating. They were hiding a bag of meth in each tub of coating.

I think it would’ve been better (and wickedly ironic) if Gale had instead been singing Simple Mind’s Don’t You (Forget About Me).

I thought it was chicken batter. The light wasn’t the greatest in the back of the truck, but we did see a scene in the S3 EP 9 intro showing the drugs getting packaged into some sort of Los Pollos Hermanos buckets filled with a grayish-white goopy/gloppy substance, which at the time I took to be premixed chicken batter for the various restaurants.

Walt Jr. is actually the major player behind everything in the show. He’s totally manipulating everyone so he’ll be in a position to take down Gus, the cartel, and anyone else in the way of him becoming the uncontested kingpin of the North American drug trade.

If they knew the truck was going to be hit I doubt there would be any meth or chemicals in it.

or Crapa Pelada

Walt, Jr. is completely useless as a character. They should have him act out at school or something, anything. If he disappeared, would anyone notice?

If you haven’t seen it already you should check out the Gale Boetticher Case File on the BB website. You can see the complete video, all the photos, and lots of other stuff. Among the stuff in the evidence is
a single finger print! Who can it belong to? Also one of the reports does mention that the main suspect is Hispanic/Latino (that’s why Victor had to go), and another report says that there could be another Caucasian man at the scene who left in a late model dark car. So there’s enough info to look for someone else besides Victor. The plot thickens.

Or “Wind Beneath My Wings”
