They don’t do it because they probably have trafficked people a number of times without being caught.

They simply do not care a fig about their cargo - they are simply greedy.

The individuals being trafficked are effectively prisoners and may well be used in coerced labour - opening doors might give an escape opportunity

Ignorance probably; not realising that the trailers are airtight.

I believe international truck shipments are often sealed for security, to keep migrants from hitching a ride unbeknownst to the driver. The seal is broken if the doors are opened, to make it easier to see which trucks might be carrying people.

Some don’t even know they’re carrying anything other than what the manifest says; opening a container any place other than pickup, destination and inspection points means a loss of time and can be construed as tampering. In Spain we sometimes have cases of a truck driver noticing something funky with the load or with the way the truck handles and calling the cops (either him directly or his company), but that requires a driver who knows how that truck handles and a driver and company who take that kind of thing more seriously than they take missed deadlines or bonuses.

So long as Britain and Ireland remain in the European Union together, all you need is a European Arrest Warrant:

>
> The European Arrest Warrant (EAW) is an arrest warrant valid throughout all member states of the European Union (EU). Once issued, it requires another member state to arrest and transfer a criminal suspect or sentenced person to the issuing state so that the person can be put on trial or complete a detention period.
>
> An EAW can only be issued for the purposes of conducting a criminal prosecution (not merely an investigation), or enforcing a custodial sentence.[1] It can only be issued for offences carrying a minimum penalty of 1 year or more in prison. Where the sentence has already been passed, an EAW can only be issued if the prison term to be enforced is at least four months long.
>
> The introduction of the EAW system was intended to increase the speed and ease of extradition throughout EU countries by removing the political and administrative phases of decision-making which had characterised the previous system of extradition in Europe, and converting the process into a system run entirely by the judiciary

Much too lenient a sentence.
