Sys admins all over the world are having (or are about to have) a very bad Friday and a very long weekend. > **[Microsoft outage updates: Crowdstrike issue still wreaking havoc despite fix](https://mashable.com/article/windows-bsod-crash-crowdstrike-update-worldwide-outage)** > > A fitting end to the week. > **[Major Windows BSOD issue hits banks, airlines, and TV broadcasters](https://www.theverge.com/2024/7/19/24201717/windows-bsod-crowdstrike-outage-issue)** > > The issues have been linked to a CrowdStrike update. The short (preliminary) version is that it looks like Crowdstrike (whose software is supposed to detect and prevent cyberattacks) pushed out a flawed update which now prevents affected machines from booting. Local computers can be safe-booted to a command prompt and the bad executables replaced or removed. But given that the problem prevents machines from booting, remotely-managed computers may be hosed for a while. Sympathy to anyone here who’s caught up in this. --- _[View the full topic](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/breaking-news-huge-outage-interruption-created-by-crowdstrike-problem-july-2024/1004454)._
