It’s not so much that random death isn’t horrifying, because it is, but it’s that you knew from that video that he was dead seconds later and there was nothing you could do about it. It’s roughly analogous to an impending accident. You see it coming and you have that same feeling of helplessness even though it’s happening in hundreds of other places everywhere in the world at any given time. ---

Anecdotally, I’m sure that some thugs have beat up some gamers for beating them at a game. It doesn’t prove nightshadea’s claims: 1. “Video game people” as a group are seriously violent 2. That “if the cops don’t get the guy the gamers will” 3. “this tournament is one of the most holy things in gaming” all of which statements are dripping with ignorance. ---

Redo number 1. He said “…can get violent…” I don’t care about #2 and 3. But you’re far from disproving that gaming can induce violence. This generation seems to have forgotten “tv violence.” That was a hot one back in the '70s. ---
