Joking aside, what’s of interest to me about all this is that it’s not just outsiders who were unaware that Omar died two years ago. _Senior leadership of the Taliban itself was also unaware of it._ This is part of what fuels some of the squabbling over succession now, in that his appointed successor is blamed for keeping it a secret.
