**Moderator Note** > [@Isamu](#): > > Moderators did this last time. Shut down the thread because people were talking about the problem. Are you going to do that again. Breaking news threads are not the appropriate place to have a gun control debate. If you want to “talk about the problem”, you are not being silenced. You are free to do so, just not in a breaking news thread. Feel free to start a new thread in a more appropriate forum (Great Debates or the Pit, most likely), and also feel free to link back to this thread if you would like. From the sticky at the top of MPSIMS: > [@No political/religious jabs in breaking news threads in MPSIMS](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/no-political-religious-jabs-in-breaking-news-threads-in-mpsims/740558/1): > > Unfortunately, since these types of threads commonly involve hot-button issues, they often fall prey to hijacks and rants about political, religious or other emotionally charged subjects. MPSIMS is not the place for such comments, which detract from the usefulness of breaking-news threads. If you wish to use a current event as a springboard for a commentary about a hot-button issue, please post it in Great Debates or the Pit. If you wish to discuss the moderation further, take it to ATMB. --- _[View the full topic](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/breaking-news-several-injured-and-1-dead-in-midland-texas/839533)._
