Breaking news: terrorists attack French publisher, 11 dead.

Give me your rough estimate. If I were to guess, it would be about 2%. Do you want to spin the wheel and hope you land in one of your favored areas?

OTOH, you get to spin the wheel and end up in a random Christian city. If I offer you a choice, do you pick the Muslim wheel or the Christian wheel?

Right now, for now. There are people alive in America that lived through a period where having the wrong beliefs; Blacks should have the right to vote, workers should have the right to organize, etc., etc., etc., “wrong” ideas at the wrong time, and they faced a lot more than loss of some social standing.

I trust I don’t need to list the names of the murdered.

And then there’s this,
MUSLIMS ARE RIGHT TO BE ANGRY
Bill Donohue comments on the killing of 12 people at the Paris office of the newspaper Charlie Hebdo:

“Never have I counseled violence . . . however”, mighty civilized he is. The long list of barbaric things civilized people have done with a mind full of justification make my blood run cold.

But remember It Can’t Happen Here!

Atheist and evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins took to Twitter in the wake of France’s deadly terror attack Wednesday, proclaiming that “all religions are not equally violent.”

Dawkins sent a series of tweets about religion following news that terrorists attacked Charlie Hebdo, a weekly newspaper in France, killing 12 people.

“They shouted ‘We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad,’” Dawkins wrote. “Some useful idiot will claim it had nothing to do with religion.”

From there, he added, “No, all religions are NOT equally violent. Some have never been violent, some gave it up centuries ago. One religion conspicuously didn’t.”

Bullshit! Don’t insult my intelligence or your intelligence.

You knew what you were doing and you knew how to play some of the white people here like guitars.

When you decided to call me and others “Pakis” you knew what you were doing so please don’t try and pretend to play the “I don’t understand what’s so wrong about using the word ‘nigger’ when so many black people use it” card with me.

I’m not hungry and I don’t like to eat shit even when I am.

No, you are.

Again, bullshit. Please don’t insult my intelligence or your’s.

I was asking for leaders of nations-- Presidents, Prime ministers, Secretarires of war/state etc. that condemn the acts of these terrorists. My response to your article you posted:

“Form your article we get a high ranking cleric, Egypt’s highest religious authority, a secretary general for Organization of Islamic Cooperation, an Arab League chief, and a council on American-Islamic Relations condemn it. I’m sure a City Appointed Muckraker, White House pages and backwoods preachers condemn them too…”

So you gave me nothing, absolutely nothing about world leaders condemning these actions. iiandiii gave a much more pertinent article to refute what I was asking for. Your article gave me a bunch of club leaders who thought it was wrong. Boo hoo. They have as much clout as any 13-year-old Facebook poster.

When leaders of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, etc. make a statement that condemns these actions, I may be impressed.

Clearer?

(bolding mine) Maybe where you live.

In France, they fire bombed the last movie theater that was still showing it (the others had balked under pressure). 14 wounded, 4 of them grieviously. No death but it was by sheer luck. Those people could equally well have been burned to death.

Condemn? The leaders of Iran have sent soldiers and ground attack aircraft to fight ISIL. Even limiting yourself to Sunni nations, the enemy pilot captured by ISIL was a member of the Royal Jordanian Air Force.

There are too many people in the world who support these genocidal slavers, but you do yourself no favours by insulting the people who are helping us fight them like this.

I can only hope that you’re trolling me right now though it doesn’t look like that.

Have seen many Pakistanis refer to themselves as Paki. I used it as a short form n one of the Mods decided its better not to use that word on this forum . I then never used that word here. I don’t even know which part of the world are you from, so I could never refer to you as a Paki. And anyways, my grandparents migrated from present day Pakistan. Pakistanis and me are same ‘race’. They are just converts to Islam. How can I be racist to my own race?

08.58 Police are establishing a ring of steel around Dammartin-en-Goele with armed officers forcing the public and journalists away from the area

08.57 “The two individuals have been localised. We are moving towards a denouement,” Paris’s public prosecutor has said.

08.56 RTL is reporting that at least two people were seriously injured in a shooting incident prior to the hostage taking.

08.55 To recap, the two suspects this morning appear to have stolen a car in Montagny Sainte Felicite, 30 miles northeast of Paris, before proceeding to a location close to Dammartin-en-Goële where they have taken one or more hostages.

It is not clear whether they are on the move with these hostages or have remained in a static stand-off, but a heavy police presence is moving up the N2 toward the situation.

Islamic terrorists I’m sure, or, at least, not true Christians!

There’s probably a difference. I think the percentage for both would be pretty low, but probably a lot lower for Muslim cities.

I see we are getting the whole “Muslims aren’t a race”, " a religion can’t be a race", “Indian isn’t a race” thing again. I swear we should have a sticky about this.

As this is an American board I shall defer to Merriam Webster:

Fair enough. I retract my snark. Those sort of incidents aren’t nearly as common with Christians, it seems, but…

Maybe there’s just something rotten at the core of all Abrahamic faiths. I’m kind of sympathetic to Dawkins’ sentiments.

Someone does not know how to count past one, then. It’s completely false that “one religion consipicuously didn’t [give up violence]”. Christianity, Hinduism, and even Buddhism still have violence today carried out in the name of the faith.

Of course, it’s an error to equate one particular part of the faith with all members of the faith. That seems to have gotten lost in this thread somewhere.

If you use Merriam Webster as a definitive definition of anything, you’re a moron. The only thing Merriam Webster is good for is finding out whether a particular example of mouth-breathing illiteracy is common or not.

What is wrong with that dictionary?

It’s much more useful to condemn religious fanaticism than to condemn Muslims or Islam, in my view. Condemning Muslims or Islam means that the vast majority of the practitioners are bearing some sort of blame or responsibility though they did nothing wrong. Fanaticism is different – across religions, fanaticism is much more uniformly a negative force.

Problem is that present and the past track record of many centuries shows that Islam and Hinduism have co-existed very badly with each other.

Some people run ghar vapsi(which means homecoming) campaign here in India. The idea is to bring maximum Muslims back to the religion of their forefathers i.e. Hinduism. Religion itself is bull shit, so the new converts can just have a Hindu name and not practice Hinduism at all.

Merriam-Webster is the “My post is my cite” of dictionaries. When someone misuses a word - like “literally” - Merriam-Webster is the first to add it. That has some value if you’re just looking for a “Dumbass-to-English” dictionary to work out what the fuck someone is trying to say, but it does not mean that they are right to misuse the word in such a fashion.
