I believe that the queen planned that Edward would be given his father’s dukedom after his death. I don’t know if that is still the plan. ---

Edward apparently asked to be Earl of Wessex because he liked a character in _Shakespeare in Love_. Go figure. And as @rocking_chair said there was a plan to upgrade it to Duke of Edinburgh, which might happen now. ---

[aside]This is something I’ve wondered for years. The British term “bank holiday” isn’t specifically about _banks_, right? I’m thinking it’s equivalent to the American expression “federal holiday.” On federal holidays here, banks are closed, true, but so are government offices and lots of other things. It’s the word **bank** in “bank holiday” that always confused me.[/aside] ---

It is actually. The days that banks are closed, and some government offices. The sovereign only has 2 days off where they are not doing the government’s business, Christmas and Easter. So technically no official government holidays. ---

Prince of wales invited his brother to do walk about with him and the princess of wales at Windsor. Nice to see the 4 of them together like the 3 siblings earlier at Scotland. I am a bit disappointed that the queen will fly from Scotland rather than take the train. Bank holidays started as just banks and financial institutions in the beginning then some government offices. Yes, equivalent to our federal holidays now. ---

There may be some distinctions, but the general idea (many businesses and government offices are closed) seems to be the same. ---

It’s a bit of a burn on Camilla too. Hope Princess Anne and the granddaughters are splitting the rest of the collection. ---

Eh, I’d take this with a grain of salt. A “sovereign to sovereign” transfer from Elizabeth to Charles is tax-free, but a bequest to the new Princess of Wales or other family would be subject to something like a 40% tax. The queen wasn’t foolish with her money. She may well have left instructions that X,Y,Z are to be loaned to Catherine, however, and Charles probably would follow Mummy’s instructions to the letter. ---
