Bridge proposed between Italy and Sicily

It called Bridge Pedal, but at the same time, there’s a Bridge Stride that goes over two bridges, including one of the I-5 bridges. And the bridges are closed to vehicle traffic.

I walked across the Golden gate bridge with some friends. I enjoyed it. I don’t have any specific memory of the noise, although I’m sure there was traffic noise.

What projects might there be a use for, that have not already been built?

May I suggest you ask about that here:

I’ve walked to the middle of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (not the original), and ridden a bicycle across it and the new eastbound bridge. I’ve ridden across the I-90 floating bridge in Seattle, as well. I love that put bicycle lanes on bridges like that now.

Come to think of it, I’ve ridden across the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, too. There was a bike ride in New York City (not sure if they still do it) that roughly followed the marathon route in reverse. The lower deck was closed to other traffic, and the ride finished on Staten Island.

Also ridden through the Ted Williams Tunnel under Boston Harbor.

The speed limit on the GGB is a little lower, 45 MPH. Walking the GGB is enjoyable, and the walkway is elevated above the traffic lanes, so the barrier between you and the traffic is quite substantive. Traffic isn’t going to threaten you, unless there was a wild rollover accident that was extremely calamitous.

It’s an enjoyable walk, and there are scenic vista points at both ends of the bridge. On a clear fall day it is very scenic.

At the north end, up high at Battery Spencer, years ago there were no fences constraining you to the fort. I’ve hiked down that ridge line to underneath the bridge there. It’s a cool experience being so close to the bridge and traffic, and yet also on a somewhat sketchy cliff and ridge line. A nice experience.

I’ve been going to Battery Spencer and the Martin Headlands since the late 1970s. Back then it was empty and barren — virtually nobody was there! There’d be maybe 2-3 other people and that’s it. I had the place all to myself! But in recent decades it has become crowded, overcrowded.

And then there’s Kirby Cove, one of my favorite spots…

OK. But what is the speed of traffic when the density isn’t slowing them to crawl? IMO/IME 50 or even 60.

But yeah, you’re right there’s plenty of scenic to be had at either end as well as on the span. Wandering those headlands and sorta-accessible underbridge areas was/is great fun.

I’ve walked across the Golden Gate Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge with seeming every other tourist. My fear of heights didn’t kick in on either because I didn’t go near the railing on the GGB :slightly_smiling_face: and the Brooklyn Bridge walkway is in the middle.

Conversely, when my wife and I drove across the Mackinac Bridge on a windy day when the bridge radio station was repeating to stay tuned because the bridge may be closed if the wind got any worse, I left the driving to my wife and kept my eyes closed.

Ooh, I forgot about the Brooklyn Bridge; I’ve walked across that one as well.

The bike ride I mentioned in NYC crossed from Manhattan to Queens, but I can’t remember which bridge.
