Yeah. Pretty weak pit here. She hadn’t been obnoxious to anyone on or off the board. She hadn’t spewed some really obnoxious opinions. The only thing she seems to be guilty of is being a bit thin skinned, and a choice of words by some found to be a little over the top. And for this she gets called a loathsome bitch. She said she already felt very bad about it, and then you insisted to give her one round more, when you could just have let it pass, even going to the trouble to mail her an insult to her personal email account. I’ve seen rape being used plenty in hyperbole. Including here on the SDMB. Not so long ago there was a thread something like “Being raped at the gas station”. ---

In answer to the OP in the original thread (which is closed), no you are not the only person to [ask the question](http://www.usatoday.com/community/chat/2002-12-31-woodyard.htm) but you can be encouraged that the [CDC](http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/airportscreener/pdf/2003-0199.pdf) report that the handlers are “to contact their supervisors before handling anything that appears hazardous within the baggage.” [This site](http://www.hotel-online.com/News/2006_Jan_01/k.FDO.1136400752.html) confirms that for sanitary reasons: _Bag the items inside your luggage – TSA handlers who go through the contents in your bag change gloves just once an hour. Although the items in your bag may be clean, you don’t know what else they may be handling. Using packing containers or even Ziploc bags keeps items organized and germ-free._ If you doubt that the handler has avoided handling other people’s stuff ask him/her to change gloves or offer to wait until they do. ---

This thread disgusts me, and shows this Board - and its sometimes gloating cliqueishness - at its absolute worst. A relative newcomer posts a thread with a reasonable question in good faith, and uses a rather over-heated simile in doing so: being called on it with all manner of insults, gets flustered and defends herself. A mean-spirited pile-on ensues, with every man and his dog jostling for position to to goad her - with a few honourable exceptions: take a bow, **Starving Artist**. OK, she used an unfortunate simile, and she’s not used to the occasional rough-and-tumble around here: does it honestly show us in our best light to line up and kick the shit out of her? What does that achieve, apart from a feeling of smug self-satisfaction at being part of the in-crowd bullying the new kid? Why not just a measured, “You’re new here, but actually, that simile was a little over-heated and liable to cause offence - I’d suggest dialling it down a notch until you get the hang of things around these parts.” I think that all who lined up to gleefully put the boot into **BrightPenny** ought to be damned well ashamed of themselves. And if you’re not, I’m damned well ashamed of you. So there. ---

Folks who are lining up to tell **Excalibre** how awful his behavior is, especially if you’re criticizing him for a pile-on: look around you, look at the criticism he’s received, and question whether your advice is ironic.
