For those requirements, I’d probably just go to eBay.

I mean, try, for instance, the EeePC options. I’m seeing a lot under $100. You can try other netbooks, too. My 1005HAB can do what you want (assuming your h.264 movies are 720p or less.)

I’ve got a bottom-of-the-line tablet I bought for my mother and I’ve been using it to edit “office” style files (the docs, excels, ppts and pdfs I was recently given to study were full of errors, so I helped stave off the boredom by editing them), what I wouldn’t be able to do is show them unless the projector accepts USB.

It can read regular document formats just fine, but if you need something special (say, a Visio or MSProject) you might be SOL.

If you have an old laptop to trade in, Best Buy is giving you at least $25, plus another $75 credit when buying a new laptop. That’s $100 to either upgrade your purchase, or ease the burden on your wallet.

I just bought a used Eee PC 1015px off eBay. It weighs less than 3 pounds, has a theoretical battery life around 10 hours (If I get 6, I’ll be happy), and cost $150 shipped, so it’ll be an inconvenience rather than a catastrophe if it walks away.
