Yes, if I was organising it, I’d have called it CantabDope to avoid confusion 😃 I had heard something - Angua was visiting in december, and wondered who’d be around. But nothing else. And for ‘hardy’ read ‘stupid’ or ‘drunk’ when it comes to the cam - it’s not so much the cold (which is quite deadly) but the toxicity… ---

Aha! Thanks. I figured there must be another Cam\* in the uk, but I couldn’t for the life of me think of one. Though I suppose a literal Cam Dope could be held anywhere on the Cam, not just at the Bridge. ---

Yeah, there is more than one Cam\* in the UK. Gah, you Cambridge types, so insular. 😉 Anyway, a CanTABDope may be forthcoming, it all depends on the finer details. **Shade** , I knew a fellow collage-mate of yours who jumped into the Cam at dawn on Suicide Sunday a couple of years ago. He had to go to Addenbrookes to get his stomach pumped. :eek: ---

I lost trust in Varisty the day they managed to misquote me from a CUSU Open Meeting that I hadn’t even been able to attend but had, as the GEEMA Officer on CUSU sent an official GEEMA statement to. So not only did they misquote what I said (IIRC it was about this entire hoo-ha with the Duke of Edinburgh, and him saying something silly and racist, and CUSU and the student press over-reacting as usual, and me being the voice of reason, telling them all that its not a big deal, and lets concentrate on the real issues here), but the idiots didn’t even realise that I wasn’t even there! So, yeah, I wouldn’t trust a Varsity hack any further than I could throw them. But apparantly, the BBC have picked up on the entire Gardies is closing thing, so maybe there is some truth to the rumour. And on that note, I think we should stop hijacking this thread. Its just wrong. ---

Yeah, that kind of thing. It becomes understandable when you realise it’s being written by a hungover student under a lot of time pressure. The scary thing is, how much all papers are like that. I assuming this story is true - _most_ of the stories are true, just not as many as we’d hope/assume 🙂 Though, while it’s a shame, I can’t really bring myself to care that much. Hasn’t this thread actually been a gigantic hijack all along? How of hundreds of posts actually been about organising a the dopefest? And since when have we not done wrong things? But yes, I feel a bit guilty sometimes. Maybe we should have a ‘cambridge-related posts we wanted to make in another thread, but they would have been hijacks’ thread somewhere 🙂 ---
