Britannica's Great Books of the Western World

Oops, forgot to add

There is a book titled “The Reader’s Guide to Everyman’s Library” which lists and describes the entire 1000+ volume series. (There are more than 1000 because different authors were deemed more important at a later date and were substituted for others on the list.) I am not sure if this book is still in print, but it should be available through used book sellers.

Do tell more! Every few months I get a solicitation from Easton about their “100 Greatest Books” series (the one that starts with Moby Dick for the low, low price of 5.95 – with the rest jumping to $41.50 per). I’ve never pursued it because their books seem pretty pricey, but someday I’d like to have the whole nice bookshelf adorned with beautifully bound volumes thing working – I’ve got many of the texts in cheap paperback, but it just isn’t as snazzy, yknow? Are the books as well-crafted as they claim? What books, exactly, are in the 100 (other than Moby Dick)?

I have the 100 books set from Easton Press. I have never, ever been able to decide whther the Easton Press set of books are really nice, or really cheesy. They are indeed solid. You know you are holding a book when you are reading one of them. And the print is big!
I also have the Britannica Great Books - some duplication there. So I’m a book pig.

JohnT is right. A whole lot of those books are sitting on my hard drive, just waiting to be read, for free.

“JohnT is right.”

Insta-Quote!
