I can’t believe no-one has mentioned dumplings. Or summer pudding. Or saddle of lamb. Or kippers. Or <contd p97>
Britain has a lot of wonderful food. I’m sure cookbooks of British food would go down a storm in other countries.

Oooh, summer pudding.
Though hearing what it’s made from (berries and bread) does make it sound vaguely dull. Eating it is a different matter.
On a historical note I would like to point out that both apple pie and the sandwich are, actually, British food.

I’m a brit living in the US and I took a whirlwind vacation in the UK with my (american) in laws and wife last year. They were amazed at the tastiness of regular staples over there - cheese, bread, bacon, tomatoes, potatoes.
I’m a big fan of the roast dinner, any variety-
pork, with crackling, roast potatoes, sage and onion stuffing, and gravy
lamb, with new potatoes, mint sauce, gravy
turkey at Xmas, with sausagemeat and chestnut stuffing, and gravy
beef with yorkshire pudding, horseradish, english mustard, roast potatoes, gravy
chicken with bacon and sweetcorn stuffing., roast parsnips…gravy
(there’s be 2 or more veg side dishes as well)
One big difference between roast meats in the US and the UK. In the UK, there is always gravy. - (if you hadn’t picked that up)
I’m highly chuffed you liked all (well, most) of your goodies Hugh Jass.
Even to this day I find new things to try almost daily. British food is so brilliant and flavoursome. As Hugh Jass mentioned, the different flavours beyone strawberry, chocolate, vanilla bland stuff is wonderful.
curly chick I did send him 3 Birds custards for his spotted dick. Forbid one doesn’t have any to go with it!
