That is the exact opposite of a rant I could have written. In Canada I grew accustomed to spineless men, so afraid of being percieved as an asshole that they would never make the first, nor the second, nor the third move. (I had a boyfriend that would ask permission to do sexual stuff, many years into our relationship.) British men made no bones about their intentions towards me, and I loved it. I think Canadian men need to take some lessons. (And once I picked up a lovely one on the Tube, so it’s not entirely a romantic dead zone.) 'Course, upon seeing some of these replies, I wonder if maybe I was just seeing the lower-class ones, who never learned that women should be approached carefully. Or maybe it was, indeed, that I was only seeing Northern ones. (Although there was one fellow from the Isle of Man, isn’t that in the south?) Also, I had a number of (Southern) British men as friends who had been scarred by Canadian women. I heard one of them remark “I’ll stick with shallow English women from now on, thankyewverymuch!” ---

I think that if you like him–no reason you shouldn’t give him a quick peck on the cheek or similiar–after the film, of course. If you meet him at the door with a kiss, you may never see the film! Um, I’m a bit crap aren’t I? We’ve been out several more times and things are going really well. It did take him til the 3rd date to kiss me and even then I had to ask him to…hehe. I am still the dominant one but hey, I can live with it. 😉 ---

Nice. I’m sure eventually he’ll become trusting enough of himself and you to make the first move - it just takes time to realise how fast/slow the other person wants to take the relationship, I guess. One false move too fast and that could scupper the whole thing, and he might be more unsure because of the culture differences.
