It’s also funny that they’re talking about invoking the European convention on human rights in their defence, one of the things that they wish to remove from British law (by repealing the Human Rights Act 1998).

FWIW they were - and probably still are - viewed with extreme suspicion by the security services. And membership of certain ‘socialist’ parties made - and probably still makes - getting certain jobs much more difficult.
