Try listening to one of the Looper albums (featuring one of the Stuarts from B&S), the accent more than creeps there.
Oh, Manchester…
So much to answer for…
Gen from Defenestration, and the guy who now fronts Fairport Convention (Simon Nicol, i think), and also (the sadly deceased) Sandy Denny who also fronted them for a while.
If anyones actually heard any of these people apart from me, btw, then colour me suprised.
Gavin Rossdale from Bush.
I just like the way he says “pisser”. And he’s fine to look at, too.
I actually opened this thread to mention Billy Bragg, and find that two people beat me to it.
Elastica
Roy Harper and Ian Anderson. I feel old.
Joey Ramone.
Wait a minute…
Heh. Or am I hearing things?
I wanted to say Crowded House, but I think Neil Finn is from New Zealand.
Be surprised then. Be very surprised. OK -I’ve never heard of the “Gen” guy, but I love Fairport - trouble is - I only have their stuff on vinyl! LOL. Be so surprised that you and I may even have chatted without knowing it at Cropredy (though it’s getting to be a long time since I’ve been).
So, to contribute somethign apart from a hijack - anyone remember Incredible String Band? Definitely sounded Scottish. (Uselsss info = only Scottish group to play Woodstock, I believe)
No-one’s mentioned Spinal Tap. How much more English can you get?
He is. Maybe it’s cuz I’m Australian, but I occasionally hear his accent in some songs. Like Dustant Sun, for instance.
Crowded House was an Australian band (even tho’ Finn is from New Zealand).
What about Stanley Holloway? And Julie Andrews?
Some people might prefer an answer like Super Furry Animals, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers or Catatonia.
Apologies if I caused any confusion, Gen is a girl from a completely different band.
I’ve never been to Cropredy, but i would love to go. I got in to Fairport about 18-20 months ago (i’m only 19), via my dad. I love their takes on traditional folk songs. I’m hoping that i can maybe go and see Fairport live next febuary, if their tour brings them close to my university…(finger crossed…)
If you wanted to find Fairport music on formats other than vinyl, i’ve found CDs of their music pretty easy to come by.
(London) Suede.
