I’ve been watching a BBC series called Death in Paradise, and it struck me as having an unusual number of _really_ good looking people, for British TV that is. My no doubt biased perception has been that beauty is practically mandatory for Hollywood actors, but the Brits were far more accommodating to actors who look like normal humans. Is the BBC succumbing to Hollywood beauty standards? Is the series an exception because of its exotic Caribbean location? And where can I find more BBC eye candy? ---

Granted Camille and her mother are stunning, but there are plenty of more average looking people. Even the movie star in one of the episodes does not have movie star looks. ---

I used to be quite a fan of Silent Witness, and by the time it got melodramatically crap, it had an unfeasibly large number of rather gorgeous people on it, including [Emilia Fox and Tom Ward](http://www.digitalspy.com.au/british-tv/interviews/a373393/silent-witness-qa-emilia-fox-tom-ward-talk-series-15.html#~phmFEKqDJNbqlU). I don’t necessarily discount that there may be a connection between these two facts… ---

There’s a UK dating show Take me out, but if you want clever comedy and good-looking people, look no further than Coupling. Coupling is written by Steven Moffat (Dr. Who!) and has Sarah Alexander (swoon!) ---

Currently on Masterpiece–_Poldark_. (The new version.) Lovely Cornish landscapes/seascapes. And [Aidan Turner](http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/programs/features/spotlight/poldark-s1-6-things-aidan-turner/)… And I just realized _The Jewel In The Crown_ is streaming on Netflix. Highly intelligent–and Charles Dance back when he was The Thinking Woman’s Bit of Crumpet. ---

Have to agree with the “new” Poldark. However, I am not complaining about Aiden Turner shirtless. One thing I very much like about British TV is no one (usually) looking like supermodels. It makes it so much better, in my opinion. Far more believable. ---

My current fave is [Andrea Lowe](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0522882/) of _DCI Banks_. Very Susannah York-ish. _Call the Midwife_ has a mix of women of various ages and looks.
